If you are visiting Tenerife, Loro Park in Puerto de la Cruz is one of those places that is worth setting aside a full day for. The park is home to more than 400 animal species, but in our opinion, it is not simply the number of animals that makes it special.
From penguins and parrots to orcas, dolphins and sea lions, as well as gorillas, red pandas and big cats, there is a huge variety of things to see throughout the day. Add the lush tropical vegetation, themed areas and several animal presentations, and you have much more than just a few hours at a zoo.
That is why we would not recommend treating Loro Park Tenerife as a quick stop that you can fit into a couple of hours. If you want to explore the park at a relaxed pace, watch some of the presentations, spend time with the animals that catch your attention and avoid rushing from one area to another, it is worth giving yourself the whole day.

What makes Loro Park so special?
One of the things we love about Loro Park Tenerife is how quickly the atmosphere changes as you move through the park. Within a few minutes, you can go from the Antarctic atmosphere of Planet Penguin to the lush bird-filled surroundings of Katandra Treetops and then on to the impressive Orca Ocean.
The name Loro Parque is closely associated with parrots, and for good reason. The park opened in 1972 with just 150 parrots. Today, parrots are still an important part of its identity, but they are joined by many other animal species and habitats, making the visit much more varied than its original name might suggest.

The penguins live in a specially cooled environment, and you move through the viewing area on a moving walkway. This makes it easy to look around at your own pace while getting a close view of the penguins as they move through their icy surroundings.

At Loro Park, you can see several species of primates, including gorillas and chimpanzees.

🌴 Katandra Treetops – Walking Among the Birds
Katandra Treetops has a completely different atmosphere from the aquarium or dolphinarium. Instead of watching a scheduled presentation, you walk through a huge, lush aviary filled with plants while exotic birds move and fly around you.
If you enjoy nature or photography, we think this is an area worth taking your time in. It is a good place to slow down, look around and notice what is happening around you.

If you are renting a car in Tenerife, Loro Park is located in Puerto de la Cruz, in the north of the island.
The park has its own car park, which currently costs €7 per day. Parking cannot be booked in advance.
